"It's time to sort out the mortgage..."
Along with decisions to lose weight and stop smoking, ‘sort out the mortgage’ must be one of the most popular New Year’s resolutions. But sorting out what is most people’s biggest monthly expense makes good sense at any time of year. There are good financial planning reasons for reviewing your mortgage on a regular basis – but if you are thinking of moving to a different lender, you also need to be aware of the potential costs involved. Ten New Year's resolutions for your financial planning
Around 50% of us make New Year’s Resolutions and ‘sort the finances out’ must be one of the most popular: but that’s a little vague – it’s more a wish than a firm commitment to take action. Looking at the January appointments we’ve had with new and existing clients, here are the topics that we’ve discussed most often. If you’re determined to sort out your finances, these may give you some food for thought. Read more here |

January market commentary
December saw the death of North Korea’s ‘dear leader’ Kim Jong-il, with command of the country seemingly passing to his youngest son – the ‘great successor’ – Kim Jong-un. But with sundry generals peering over the younger Kim’s shoulder tensions are likely to remain high, especially around the border with South Korea. Read more here |

Fraser news
As we bid farewell to an eventful yet successful year for Frasers we particularly remember those we have lost, welcome those we have met for the first time in 2011, thank our loyal clients and colleagues for their continued presence and invite everyone to join us in making 2012 a year to be remembered!
We have returned to work, a little wiser, a little more rotund and armed with goals and resolutions. On the first day back we were faced with an onslaught of 'fitness-improvement' war stories - Iain Mackie limping following a football related injury (we keep telling him he's too old for such activity!), Kerry Taylor on crutches after a jogging incident and Lesley Beattie performing a Richard III-type stance around the office due to a back spasm after falling off her bike! So much for the healthy resolution and not much competition for the Olympic challenge! Kevin and Paul, however, (now known as the iPad 2 twins) didn't even notice as they 'out app'd' each other with their techno-Christmas presents.
We look forward to hearing your New Year resolutions as we catch up in the coming weeks.
At the end of December we wished a fond farewell to Shirley Davies, one of our administrators, who has happily moved on in her life following a difficult year and we wish her every success in the future. This month we welcome Luke Crowther into the Fraser family, joining us as an IT apprentice with a view to a permanent position later in the year. We believe in doing our part to help out young people at this most difficult of economic times and we are sure Luke will prove to be a good addition to our staff.
Finally, a very important date for your New Year calendar - 24 February 2012. The annual Fraser Wealth Bake Off in aid of Macmillan Cancer Research will take place once again. Each of the Fraser team will be competing for 'Brilliant Baker' and you are all invited to come along, sample the wares (for a small donation to charity) and cast your vote - yet another reason to shed some pounds in readiness for a mammoth tasting session!!

And Finally . . .
2011 saw an continued and accelerated rise in smartphone usage. So much so, in fact, that by the end of the year even certain members of the animal kingdom were catching on. The frog in this short clip proves to be a natural when trying out one particular app...
